The Compact Yakut Knife is a handcrafted fixed-blade EDC and outdoor knife inspired by the traditional knives of the Yakut people of Siberia.
Its slender blade and comfortable handle make it a versatile everyday companion, suitable for everything from simple cutting tasks and food preparation to detailed woodcarving and general outdoor use.
The Blade
The blade is entirely hand-forged from reclaimed file steel, transforming an old tool into a functional knife.
File steel typically contains a high percentage of carbon, allowing it to achieve good hardness and edge retention when properly heat-treated.
The blade has an estimated hardness of approximately 58–60 HRC.
Its traditional asymmetrical geometry features a hand-forged groove on the right side and a flat-ground bevel on the left.
This distinctive construction gives the knife its characteristic cutting behavior, especially when carving and working with wood.
The knife is configured for right-handed use.
With its relatively slender 8.5 cm blade, it offers a useful combination of precision, control, and versatility for everyday tasks.
The Handle
The handle is made primarily from walnut wood, complemented by two bone spacers with a thin brass spacer between them.
The combination of dark walnut, light bone, and brass creates a simple but distinctive appearance.
Its rounded shape provides a comfortable grip, suitable for both everyday cutting and longer periods of use.
The Sheath
A handmade, hand-stitched leather pouch sheath is included with the knife.
The sheath has not yet been made but will be completed shortly. It will follow a simple, traditional design without decorative leather tooling.
