The Compact Yakut Knife is a handcrafted fixed-blade EDC and outdoor knife inspired by the traditional knives of the Yakut people of Siberia.
Compact, versatile, and comfortable to use, it is designed for a wide range of everyday cutting tasks, from opening packages and preparing food to woodcarving and light outdoor work.
The Blade
The blade is entirely hand-forged from an old steel file, giving a discarded tool a new purpose.
File steel is generally high in carbon and capable of achieving excellent edge retention when properly heat-treated. The blade has an estimated hardness of approximately 58–60 HRC.
The knife features the characteristic asymmetrical geometry of traditional Yakut knives.
A hand-forged groove runs along the right side of the blade, while the left side features a flat-ground bevel. This construction creates a distinctive cutting behavior, particularly when working with wood.
The knife is configured for right-handed use.
Its short, relatively broad blade offers good control for precise cutting, carving, and general everyday tasks.
The Handle
The handle combines walnut and acacia wood, with approximately 5 cm of acacia and the remaining section made from walnut.
Its simple, rounded shape provides a comfortable and natural grip, making the knife pleasant to use for both quick everyday tasks and longer carving sessions.
The Sheath
A handmade, hand-stitched leather pouch sheath is included with the knife.
The sheath has not yet been made but will be completed shortly. It will follow a simple, traditional design without decorative leather tooling.
